To start off this sprint I made an animation for the robotic arm prop. This prop is going to be added in the background to create dynamic lighting. Originally I made a pretty short animation, but I realized that the loop would be too obvious so I ended up adding more movements and pauses so It seems more randomized before it loops. This animation ended up being about 12 seconds long with 2 groups of movement.
I UVed and textured the monitor arm prop. this is going to be used as an indicator to the player that they can go through a door so I made two textures, one that shows the door is locked and one that shows that it is unlocked. The rest of the arm is textured with scraped up old metal to match the grimy theming in the game. I struggled a little bit with creating the symbols on the screen but I think the emission layer I ended up with works well for readability for the player.
When I finished texturing this model I moved back into maya to create a simple rig for it. I know how to rig in unreal engine but this is my first attempt in maya. It is a very simple rig with just a few joints. I didn't add any constraints to this rig because I'm the one whose going to be animating with it. Overall it went pretty well and I think at least for simple props like this I could make rigs in the future in maya.
When I finished making the rig I ended up animating the monitor arm prop. When I checked with my team we decided this animation should be one second long so we don't slow down the player moving though the level. I started by marking my first frame and frame 24 then came up with some options of how to get from point A to point B. I ended up with a more jerky robotic movement over a smooth one which I think looks better.
